PhD Sunderland University Title: Computing, Multi-objective Optimisation Using Genetic Algorithms

My research is developing an optimiser using genetic algorithms to interface with company specific software. This has included using VBA/Excel, Matlab, During my PhD I have taken part in University activities.

I have presented a paper at the Planning and Configuration Workshop of the German Conference of Artificial Intelligence.

I have recently in partnership with members of NCAF and employees of Sunderland University organised a meeting which involved communicating with speakers and putting together a document of abstracts for the event.

1999 - 2000
MSc Decision Support Systems (Pass) - Sunderland University This course allowed me to study the use of various mathematical techniques to solve problems.

Dissertation A feasibility study into whether discrete event simulation services can be offered as an addition service to steel fabricators.

I actively sought a work placement to enable me to complete my project. I successfully gained 19 weeks experience at Corus, Swinden Technology Centre. This involved commuting at weekends

Additional Information

During my PhD I attended teaching course for teaching University Students

I enjoy making soap and other crafts. I am also interested in digital photography and am fully computer literate, being familiar with a wide range of computer programs and packages. I am good at problem solving and enjoy mathematics, science and technology as well as having an interest in the social sciences and politics. I actively support the local rugby club which involves in partnership with a couple of the players the development of their website at www.ayclifferugby.com.

I am a student member of the Operational Research Society and have attended The Computer Society Lectures as well as recreational maths weekends in association with the Open University.

My unsuccessful early academic performance is due to undiagnosed dyslexia. I have achieved all my higher education qualifications while managing up a family.
